'Fancy Creatures'
Sayaka Maruyama & Tomihiro Kono
Photo Exhibition @ EATON HOTEL HK

Feb 20-March 26, 2023
About the Exhibition
eaton.hk> Partnering with Sham Shui Po art gallery Current Plans, from 22 February until 26 March, the walls of the Food Hall will be adorned with photographs of the works of Japanese wig artist and photographer Tomihiro Kono and Sayaka Maruyama. The show, Fancy Creatures, curated by Eunice Tsang, brings us a glimpse into this surreal world, where human, animal and plants mingle into sculptural, wearable hair art. The duo create everything from scratch, from drawings and designs, to hand-dyeing, weaving, and painting the hair into incredible creatures. They have been commissioned by some of the most avant-garde icons, from fashion house Balenciaga to experimental musicians like Bjork and Grimes.

On 26 February, Eaton HK’s state of the art theatre room Kino will host a book signing session of Kono and Maruyama’s new book, Fancy Creatures and artist talk with both the artists and curator joining the audience in conversation of their processes, inspiration, and working on set with icons like Bjork.

Furthermore, Current Plans will have a concurrent exhibition from 22 February until 23 April, which consists of fantastical installations, photographic prints and a screening room where the duo’s video projects can be viewed in a cave-like environment, bringing together more than 20 wigs made from real human hair.
